Introduction

"As the legacy owner of the Ice Hockey Stadium at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the Sport and Leisure studies major is a cradle for the development of Korean sports and the cultivation of top talents who will lead the future of the sports and leisure market.

Recently, our University changed its name to Catholic Kwandong University and laid the foundation for its transformation from a prestigious history school that has represented Gangwon-State to a prestigious history school that will lead Korea and ultimately the Pacific Rim under a new founding philosophy and educational vision. In order to proactively respond to new trends and demands in the sports and leisure market, our major has been renamed the Sports and Leisure studies at the Trinity College of Interdisciplinary Studies since 2015. This is to enhance the ease of convergence of sports and leisure education and to foster competitive sports and leisure professionals.

As a practical field of study that embodies the philosophy of the SPORT FOR ALL movement, which aims to improve the health and quality of life of the people, we have been doing its best to cultivate excellent living sports instructors required by the field. In addition, by providing a balanced education environment for elite athletes and students, we are practicing quality education so that they can play a leading role in the future professional sports field. In addition, we have been cultivating talents in a wide variety of fields ranging from targeted sports and leisure professionals such as infants, the elderly, and the disabled, as well as convergence sports and leisure Areas that reflect recent trends such as exercise prescription and sports rehabilitation, outdoor sports, sports industry, and sports tourism.

The Sport and Leisure Studies Major provides customized education services to foster global talents who can actively cope with the 21st century creativity-based society by the best faculty in Korea. In the future, we will strive to achieve the four talents of practical leaders, prepared professionals, creative practitioners, and innovative initiators through job-based, field-oriented, and customized-and-specialized education that meets the needs of students and society.

Major Description

Discipline of Sport & Leisure

Sport and Leisure Studies is a multidisciplinary sport science that studies the independent yet complex Areas of sport and leisure activities, contributing to a happier and more fulfilling life by enabling all people to enjoy sport and leisure activities freely and meaningfully, regardless of gender, age, region, or class. The field of sport and leisure studies is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary field that encompasses professional sport, recreational sport, leisure sport, news sport, and disability sport, as well as the sport and leisure industry and the leisure and recreation sector.

  • Legacy Owner of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics with state-of-the-art educational facilities and environment.
    Catholic Kwandong University is the only Winter Olympic Venue in Korea that will host the ice hockey competition at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The ice hockey main stadium and practice stadium, which will be built on a 15,000-pyeong site on campus for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, will be completed in late 2016, and after the Olympic Games, it will be remodeled into a state-of-the-art complex sports facility for all-season sports activities and used as a space for students' major education and on-the-job training.
  • Institute.Not only do we train certified physical education instructors by operating the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism-designated Physical Education Instructor Training Center, but we also actively provide opportunities for students to work as professional and competent sports and leisure instructors by acquiring various private professional physical education instructor certificates, such as the Korea Sports Federation and its affiliated sports organizations, the Korea Disabled Sports Federation, the Association of Athletic Prescribers, the Korea News Sports Association, the Korean Red Cross Society Lifeguard Corps, and the Korea Recreation Association.
