Introduction

The Department of Dental Hygiene aims to nurture competent dental hygienists with the professionalism and leadership required by the future society by systematically and scientifically educating the principles and methods to improve the oral health of the people. In addition, this department opened a master's program in dental hygiene at theSchool of general graduate school in 2024 to produce talented individuals with the expertise and information skills required for dental hygiene field.

  1. The department of dental hygiene fosters medical specialists in dental hygiene who contribute to the improvement of the dental health of the nation.
  2. Dental hygienist are responsible for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases and also promoting oral health.
  3. Dental and oral hygiene education provides professional theories and techniques that specialize in medical technology which can contribute to improving oral health.
Certificates & Licenses

Only graduates from the department of dental hygiene are entitled to take the national dental examinations once a year and to obtain the license from the government after passing the examination.

Course Description

[ BASIC SCIENCE IN DENTAL HYGIENE course ]

  • Introduction to Dental Hygiene : In this class, the purpose of study is to learn Dental Hygienist's system, developmental process of their education, and understand works and activities of dental hygienist. This class also shows the professional ethics and professionalism.
  • Dental Terminology : The objective of the study is to learn fundamental dental and medical terminology for practical application to real-world situations or clinical practice.
  • Head and Neck Anatomy & Practice : The objective of the study is to learn possible correlations with basic academic subjects and clinical courses by understanding interaction of maxillofacial region and head & neck region
  • Dental Morphology & Practice : This is a science that is designed for students to understand relation of anatomical forms of teeth, dental functions, array, occlusion, and periodontium. This is a science that is designed about substances, functions and name of each tooth as well as a process of a tooth formation and take clinical practice in advance of applications in dental clinic.
  • Oral Microbiology : The main teaching point of this subject is the oral disease which are caused by oral microorganisms. So students have to understand the specific oral microorganisms for the treatment of oral diseases.
  • Oral Histology & Embriology : This course is designed to learn about substances, structure and functions of oral tissues. The study aims to comprehensive understanding of dental histology and embryology.
  • Oral Phathology : The directly related clinical cause and progress of diseases should be dealt with, and the knowledge on disease diagnose, treatment and prevention should also be learned to develop a skill required in the clinical field.
  • Oral Physiology : The main teaching points of this subject are bone tissue, tooth, mastication, salivary gland, periodontal tissue, swallowing, articulation, phonation, The goal of this subject is to understand the mechanism and the importance of the lists mentioned above which are essential to the prevention and treatment of oral health with deep and wide knowledge, information, technicians, skills and confidence.
  • Periodontics : This course is designed to learn about the characteristics of periodontal tissues and the possible causes, prevention and cure of periodontal diseases

[ CLINICAL DENTAL SCIENCE : sophomore, junior ]

  • Dental Prophylaxis & practice 1·2 : Students learn about teeth as well as tissues all around teeth, and they also learn about all causes and preventive of dental diseases.
  • Preventive Dentistry & Practice : This course is to understand the meaning of prevention, and to acquire knowledge on preventive dentistry and prevention of oral disease. The goal of the lecture is to acquire the oral health concepts and techniques that interrelate to create a preventive dental practice. In addtion, the study aim to educate students on how to assess patients' dental condition by acquiring clinical preventive dental health care and establishing preventive planning measures to evaluate execution and process.
  • Dental Materials : This course is integrated with laboratory sessions whereas students apply usage of dental materials and deal properly with them, and take clinical practice in advance of applications in dental clinic.
  • Conservative Dentistry : This course will provide an introduction to the concept and theory of conservative dentistry with understanding of the treatment methods and materials used in clinical practice to in the aim to provide advanced treatment to the patient.
  • Dental Prosthodontics : This course focuses on improving the student's ability of utilizing the state-of-the-art equipment in dental engineering, and learning how to use them and apply them working situation
  • Dental Orthodontics : Orthodontics moves teeth, leading to the normal facial growth, and orthodontic treatment is focused on the ultimate goal of occlusion of teeth.
  • Pedodontics : Considering that young children grow and develop with great physical and mental changes, this subject can be applied more effectively for clinical atmosphere by learning oral characteristics and oral diseases of young children as well as understanding the development process with planing for diagnosing and treating the diseases.
  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery : Through acquiring a general knowledge of oral and maxillofacial surgery, you will not only be able to diagnose and plan treatment for oral and maxillofacial surgery patients, but also learn about infection control, surgical preparation, and the various surgeries handled in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Learn the content needed to perform epidemiology for dental hygienists.
  • Oral Radiology : Convergence of medical and computer technology in the 21st century has contributed tremendous increasement of new knowledges in Oral Imaging field. As technology develops, Oral Imaging fields have shown variety advancements and changes. Following this digital changes, this Oral Imaging course provides the foundation knowledge and skills needed for the appropriate use of Oral Imaging in dental practice.
  • Clinical Dental Hygiene and Practice 1·2 : Students will learn the oral prophylaxis practice, and the application of instrumental methods. They will also learn how clinical experience can aid in establishing the probability of the patients' oral hygiene.
  • Clinical Dental Hygiene and Practice 3·4 : Clinical Dental Hygiene II is designed to brush up all of the materials covered in the last semester, going over the procedures starting with assessment & dental hygiene diagnosis, planning, then executing and evaluation by accompanying both lectures and practice comprehensively.
  • Clinical Practice 1·2 : Students are expected to experience a practical application of their knowledge in hospital and dental clinic.
  • Dental Hygiene Core Practice : In this course studenst will learn basic knowledge about special patients in dentistry. Special Patient management is used in clinical practice.
  • Dental Health Insurance Practice : For the management of dental health insurance of dental hygienist this subject lets the students have practical ability to deal with dental health insurance claims by understanding the regulations and works of the dental health Insurance.

[ SOCIAL DENTAL HYGIENE : sophomore, junior ]

  • Dental Health Education and Practice: This subject is designed to learn the concept and importance of oral health education, learn the purpose and goal of oral health education by life cycle, and how to prepare and evaluate media, so that they can get fundamental knowledge.
  • Community Dental Hygiene & practice : This course is designed to provide the student with knowledge of how to work as a dental hygienist to improve dental health of community residents in community health centers and dental health center in schools. Also, by learning about the medical care, dental health administration and its researching method, the student will be able to contribute to dental health improvement of the nation.
  • Public Oral Health Science : This course is designed to improve teaching capability of students as it is one of the most important roles for dental hygienists, thus, by connecting with community and establishing dental hygiene education plans and creating its content.
  • Health Related Law and Dental Hygiene Ethics : The goal of this subject for students is to understand medical relation laws as medical workers. Students also learn medical service laws to follow properly in the field.
  • Oral Health Statistics and Practice : This course is to learn the method of statistical analysis, basic concept of oral health statistics, and its necessity of prevention for teeth and oral diseases. Accordingly, the lectures will help students utilize statistics techniques in the clinical trials to real-world practice.
